Welcome to the third in our “12 tips to Christmas!”  This is a mini survival guide which both business owners and employees may find useful to get them through the festive season without too much trouble!

Tip 3 – The Christmas Party Venue

Taking on the task of organising the Christmas office party can be a huge responsibility. As we have seen from Tip#2 remembering to invite everyone and not forgetting about those absent is important to avoid allegations of discrimination or complaints. However, choosing an appropriate venue is also important to ensure the party is inclusive.

The sorts of things that an employer may need to consider are….

  • Is the party venue at a location that is accessible by all employees;
  • checking that the venue provides facilities for those staff with a disability;
  • Ensuring that the venue is suitable for employees of all ages;
  • Being mindful that some venues may offend those of a particular religion or sex, as this could result in claims for discrimination.

This may sound like a lot for an employer to consider but it is important to remember that the main aim is to ensure that the event is inclusive and enjoyable for all!

Tomorrow we will look at whether it is necessary to set the standards expected of employees at the Christmas party by having a party policy!
